The Femminello Siracusano is the lemon used for cooking in Sicily. 🍋 It has a thin, smooth rind, very few seeds, and a juiciness that other lemons lack.

It grows in the countryside of Scordia and flowers several times a year, which is the characteristic that gives it its name. The rind is full of essential oils: when you grate it, you immediately smell it, and that's why it's the lemon used in Sicilian pastry making.

Product storage

Untreated lemons last less than supermarket lemons because they don't have wax on their surface. Keep them in a cool, airy place, in a single layer, away from the sun: they will last about two weeks.

In the refrigerator, in the fruit drawer, they will last three or four weeks. Do not put them in a plastic bag, as humidity will cause mold to grow in a few days.

If you have a lot left over, grate the zest and freeze it in a container, and squeeze the juice into ice cube trays. The zest and juice will last six months and are ready to use. Wash the fruit before consuming it.
